Keeping Employees Engaged

Helping employees keep motivation is a year-long objective for pretty much any business. But sometimes in the face of unexpected challenges, this can sometimes prove to be an extra challenge. In these and similar circumstances, workers sometimes can become less productive or otherwise have a sense of decreased motivation at their jobs.increasingemployeeengagement

At American Lumber, we believe it is important to help employees maintain their motivation no matter what challenges present themselves. With this in mind, we strive to explore different strategies that help keep our employees focused and engaged. Here are a few tips we found helpful towards reaching this goal.

Communicate. You can’t expect employees to feel engaged with their organization if they don’t know what’s going on. Business leaders should commit to sharing information on strategic thinking, as well as plans for new projects or other changes. With the prevalence of so many digital avenues to communication tools, it is easier than ever to reach out to your team whether through videos, virtual conference calls, or even instant messaging applications. Employees informed about the company’s direction have a greater stake in the final outcome and will feel more engaged with the business as a whole.

Get Updates From Your Employees. The people you’ve on your team are intelligent, hard-working, and good at what they do. With that in mind, it only makes sense to continuously tap into what they’re thinking and to frequently communicate your own expectations for performance.

But even beyond that, look for opportunities to ask your team what their thoughts are. Tapping into their knowledge and experience can be of great benefit to your business. Ask them: How can we improve operations in your area? What suggestions do you have to improve the customer experience? What obstacles do you encounter that inhibit productivity?

Celebrate achievements. How much effort does your company presently make in terms of employee recognition? When businesses recognize both individual and team achievements, they generate renewed excitement and energy and, just as importantly, a sense of pride in what gets accomplished.

It is important to keep in mind your employees are your most valuable resource, so it’s a good idea to make sure that they stay active and focused, and ready to meet new challenges when they arrive.

What steps have you taken towards increasing employee engagement? If you have any thoughts, we would love to hear them!
